Papermaking
How to make hemp paper:
You won’t need much to make your hemp paper. In fact, you probably already have most of the essential items in your house. Here’s what you’ll need to get started:
Pre-packaged hemp fibre or cut-up fabric in small pieces (enough to fill a ~5-6 L pot)
Pot with lid
Stove or another source of heat
Water
Baking soda
Papermaking mould and deckle
Place your hemp fibre in a pot and pour in enough water to cover the plant material.
Place the pot over medium to high heat.
Add about 1 tsp of baking soda. Baking soda is a crucial part of this process, as it helps to dissolve the fibre.
After six hours, remove the pot from the heat and allow it to cool.
Note: You’ll need to heat the hemp fibre for six hours in total. It’s best to break this preparation period down into three phases. Boil the fiber continuously and add water every two hours since you’ll inevitably lose some of the moisture as vapour. Continue doing this until the six hours is up.
Pour the hemp fibre and water into a blender. The “Smoothie” or a similar setting will work just fine.
Blend the fibres for a few seconds until it looks like a very loose form of paper mache. It will have just enough structure to hold its shape when you squeeze the fibrous “soup.”
Pour the blended fibre into a wide, shallow bin.
Take your papermaking mould and submerge it just underneath the surface of the fibrous liquid.
Agitate the water with the mould frame to spread the hemp fiber evenly across the screen’s surface.
Press the water out of the mould frame and lay the sheet of hemp fibre out for drying.
Note: Specific instructions for this vary, depending on the type of papermaking kit you have

If you haven't come across the term "indent" before, we highly recommend you get used to it as it's becoming the more thoughtful and economical way of supplying product.
Essentially indent (or the indent model) refers to the process of taking orders and then producing, or providing based on that order. This prevents over-ordering and wastage of product.
If you're reading this, it's because you've found one of our Hemp Fabrics that is available for indent ordering only. This means it's not something we keep on hand readily available. If you wanted to purchase indent, minimum fabric meterage starts at 300m, but depending on the fabric, we could work with a smaller quantity.
Do not despair if you've found your perfect fabric but can't purchase 300+m. Leave your details with us, even if you're after a couple of metres. We often have overwhelming interest that small orders make up the big order!
If you are interested in purchasing indent, please leave your details with us by emailing sales@hempgallery.com.au or calling on 0435 543 674.
