About Hemp Gallery bed linen

Hemp Gallery Australia introduced Hemp Linen Sheets to the Australian market almost 20 years ago. It was still an unknown entity as many people didn’t know the varied benefits of hemp at that time.

Since the late ‘90s, we have been champions for change in the bedding industry. And today, using sustainably grown hemp and certified organic cotton, we sell a better night’s sleep directly through our web shop.

All our bed linen is made in Australia under Fairtrade conditions from hemp and cotton ethically sourced, milled and manufactured by our partners in China. From hemp fitted sheets to hemp pillowcases and quilt covers, our goal is to create an experience regular cotton sheets can’t offer. In early 2021 we will also be introducing Australian made 100% hemp linen sheet to the Australian market.

Hemp sheets, organic cotton or linen sheets?

Each type of sheet has its advantages. When you’re shopping for new sheets, the most common choices are cotton, linen and hemp. So, let’s look at what each has to offer.

Organic cotton

  • Certified organic (GOTS or OCS are the certifications to search for)
  • Some are free from pesticides and toxins
  • Average durability
  • Soft feeling
  • High water consumption
  • Not always transparently sourced
  • Often treated on arrival to Australia
  • Prone to fading, pilling and shrinking
  • Not moisture wicking
  • Not absorben

 Linen sheets

  • Luxurious drape
  • Exceptionally soft
  • Durable
  • Endless colour/pattern choices
  • Not certified organic
  • Dyed with chemicals
  • Not breathable and hypoallergenic like hemp
  • Prone to stretching
  • Grown with chemicals
  • Not grown in Australia

Hemp sheets

  • Antibacterial
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Certified organic (GOTS and OCS)
  • Ideal for asthmatics, children and babies
  • Strong, durable fibres
  • Softens over time
  • No dyes or chemical colouring
  • No pesticides in the production
  • Environmentally friendly
  • Breathable and insulating
  • Moisture-wicking and absorbent
  • Resistant to mould and mildew

Each fabric has advantages. So, the best choice is a balanced blend of the best bits. That’s why our hemp sheets are a mixture of 55% ethically sourced hemp and 45% certified organic cotton, for a better night’s sleep with the benefits of both hemp and cotton.
