Hemp seed oil has been touted by some as “the superfood you should be adding to everything” and “the latest superfood that’s all the rage”
At Hemp Gallery, we know just how powerful hemp oil in Australia is, with considerable benefits to your overall health when taken orally or applied topically.
So we know you’re all asking the question: how can I incorporate more hemp oil and hemp seeds into my meals?
WHAT DOES HEMP SEED OIL TASTE LIKE?
Hemp seed oil, or hemp oil, is made by cold pressing hemp seeds. When the seeds are cold-pressed, more of the benefits of the hemp seeds can be retained.
The flavour of hemp oil in Australia is described as a strong, nutty, somewhat buttery taste, with some comparing the taste to sunflower seeds, pine nuts or walnuts.
Hemp oil has a green or golden colour to it and it is recommended to orally consume 1-2 teaspoons of the oil a day.
BAKING AND COOKING
Baking with hemp products at home is a love of ours, as you may or may not tell from our Journal Recipes.
We use the cooking as a general term, as we don’t recommend heating hemp oil too much (see our “Avoid Frying with Hemp Oil” point below).
Hemp oil can be used to create yummy, healthy treats and meals, such as protein bars, muffins and homemade granola.
It can also be combined with organic fruits such as apples, pears, strawberries, plums and cherries to create a delicious and nutrient-rich sauce for your healthy desserts.
AS A SALAD DRESSING
A simple yet effective way to enjoy the nutty, earthly flavour of hemp seed oil is to use it as a salad dressing.
Combine hemp seed oil with other flavours to create a dynamic, nutritious and absolutely mouth-watering salad dressing.
Some of our favourite salad dressings include Hemp Seed Dressing, garlic hemp oil salad dressing and honey mustard dressing.
TRY IT IN A SMOOTHIE!
To create delicious smoothies that improve your health and keep you fuller for longer, all you need to do is add in some hemp oil as you blend all your other ingredients
Hemp oil is jam-packed full of essential nutrients, including omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids that may assist in healthy skin.
Make sure to incorporate some hemp oil every morning with your smoothie and take notice of how you feel afterwards.
DIPS
Home-made dips are the best kind; whether you’re having friends over for a get together or you’re having date night at home, dips with hemp oil will leave you feeling on top of the world.
A few of our favourites include our Hemp and Lemon Hummus, Lemon Hemp Seed Pesto and all-time favourite, Hemp Olive Tapenade.
AVOID FRYING WITH HEMP OIL!
One thing to keep in mind with help oil is that it does have a smoke point of 170 degrees Celsius – at this point, the oil will visibly smoke, the heat will start to break down the nutrient value of the oil and the taste of the oil may become burnt or bitter.
To get the most out of your hemp oil, drizzle it on your food or mix it into cold dishes.
