No THC content in industrial hemp
Hemp grown for fibre and oil has no euphoric effect when ingested
The Hemp grown for commercial use, although closely related to the so-called
"demon weed" cannabis, has in fact such low psychoactive properties that you
would need to smoke it all day to get the mildest of effects, and the headache
brought about by doing this would overshadow any desired "high" that one was
trying to gain. In short, it is impossible to get stoned on industrial grade
Hemp. Here is why.
The chemical in the cannabis plant that gives a person a stoned effect is a
cannabinoid named tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). This chemical, a resinous
substance, is believed to be produced in Cannabis to reduce moisture loss in hot
climates. It has been noted that the THC content in cannabis is less in plants
that grow in cool regions than those that grow in hot, dry regions. It is for
this reason that, although Hemp was cultivated both in Europe and Asia, only in
Asia was it known for its narcotic qualities.
Another lesser known fact about the chemical properties of Hemp is the
presence of another cannabinoid, cannabidiol (CBD) found in Cannabis. This
chemical actually acts to block the effects of THC on the human nervous system.
Commercially grown Hemp has extremely low levels of THC and high levels of CBD,
so to smoke industrial Hemp would get a person un-stoned!
As for the idea of extracting THC from industrial Hemp for financial gain, it
is simply unfeasible. The extraction process would cost so much and the
extracted THC would be so little, that selling the Hemp as livestock feed would
be much more profitable!
